Gilbert, Ariz. - The future of Water Tower Plaza is bright. Starting January 2024, Gilbert will be making infrastructure and design improvements to the area. The planned upgrades are going to add vibrancy to downtown for residents and visitors.

Gilbert continues to be focused on providing the experiences and amenities that the community has enjoyed most. For the past 15 years, Water Tower Plaza has been a gathering place in the Heritage District, but now maintenance and improvements are required.

Construction Closure

Water Tower Plaza will close to the public in January 2024 and reopen Fall 2024 with new enhancements. Our teams have found that the underground infrastructure is outdated, and many replacement parts are no longer available. During the construction closure, all concrete and some above ground amenities in the park will be temporarily removed.

Impact to Community Events

Some events typically held at Water Tower Plaza will move locations. Please continue to visit our online community calendar for the latest updates on Gilbert events, programs, and activities.

Behind the Design

In 2022, the Gilbert community members shared feedback on what they’d like to see at the new Water Tower Plaza. Over 3,000 responses were received. Among the most requested amenities were a shaded picnic area, restrooms, grassy area for events, food truck connections, and a shaded splash pad.Water Tower Plaza uses recirculated and sanitized water for all features. The amount of water is less than the average residential swimming pool. Improvements to the plaza will increase our water efficiency in the future. Our architects have created designs for the plaza that are available for viewing online.

Gilbert’s Water Tower Plaza is a 0.7-acre park area that opened in 2008. The park forms a plaza surrounding the Gilbert Water Tower and Historic Adobe Pump House. It’s located just west of Gilbert Road on the southwest corner of Ash Street and Page Avenue in the Heritage District.
