The Downtown Mesa Association is pleased to announce Terry Madeksza as the new president and executive director, starting in January 2024. Madeksza will succeed Nancy Hormann, who has led the organization since 2020 and has decided to retire.
City Manager Chris Brady commended Hormann for her dedication to supporting locally owned businesses and transforming downtown Mesa into a thriving destination. "In Mesa, we have been fortunate to witness the power of Nancy's zeal and determination to help our businesses survive a pandemic and thrive in the months after," Brady stated. "During her three-year tenure, Nancy embraced our community to transform downtown Mesa into a craft brewery and foodie destination."
As the incoming executive director, Madeksza will build upon the foundation laid by Hormann and continue to foster a hospitable environment for businesses, residents, investors, and visitors. Tim Sprague, chair of the Downtown Mesa Association, expressed excitement about Madeksza's appointment, stating, "Having an experienced leader take over for Nancy will help continue our initiatives to bring growth and vibrancy."
Madeksza brings over 25 years of experience in downtown management to her new role. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree from American University and previously served as the executive director in Flagstaff for eight years. Before that, she worked for Downtown Phoenix, Inc. for 16 years.
Expressing her enthusiasm for the position, Madeksza said, "I am honored to step into this new role with Downtown Mesa. I am excited to help shape the future of Downtown Mesa - bringing new businesses, activating public spaces, offering engaging events, and supporting continued investment. The time for Downtown Mesa is now."
