CHANDLER, Ariz. – Construction for three capital improvement projects is now underway in Downtown Chandler. Work on Boston Street, Wall Street, and the City Hall parking lot are expected to be completed in fall 2024.
Starting the week of May 6, the City of Chandler will begin reconstructing Boston Street on the east side of Arizona Avenue from San Marcos Place to California Street. According to the City of Chandler, "A new drop-off zone will support area restaurants and shopping, along with the addition of parallel parking on the north side of the street and the angled parking on the south side of the street."
The city is also constructing aesthetic and pedestrian improvements along Wall Street from Chicago Street to Frye Road. The undergrounding of overhead electric and communication utilities has already been completed. The City of Chandler mentioned, "In early May 2024, the street will be reconstructed, to serve primarily as a pedestrian path linking Downtown South to the Historic Square."
In early June, work will begin on the Chandler City Hall Parking lot, located on the west side of Washington Street south of Boston Street, and the adjacent alley. The parking lot surface will be removed and repaved with new striping. The alley to the north of the parking lot will be reworked to include concrete curbing, additional lighting, and a trash enclosure. City of Chandler stated, "This project is expected to be completed by early fall."
Access to downtown businesses will be maintained during the construction. Visitors to Downtown Chandler are encouraged to utilize Arizona Avenue, Chicago Street, Buffalo Street, and Frye Road and park in the garages located on the east and west side of Arizona Avenue.
