Mesa Public Schools is taking steps to ensure the safety and security of its students and staff by installing weapons detection systems at all its high schools. This initiative was first introduced at Skyline High School, with plans to implement the system across all high schools before graduation.

The weapon detection system uses advanced technology to identify concealed weapons upon entry to campus and alert school administrators. The system, designed to detect metal objects associated with weapons, does not capture or store personal information about individuals. The importance of privacy and confidentiality is paramount, with the system strictly adhering to applicable laws and regulations. Furthermore, the technology used in the weapons detection system is medically safe.

Students are advised to have their ID visible when going through the detection process. They should also wear backpacks on both shoulders and remove all electronic devices such as laptops and tablets, along with three-ring binders from their backpacks.

The Mesa Public Schools Governing Board gave its approval for the weapons detection program at a meeting held on November 28. The system will also be implemented during graduation ceremonies and other school events.
