In response to President Joe Biden’s decision not to run for re-election and his endorsement of Vice-President Kamala Harris to take his place, Arizona Rep. Travis Grantham (R-14) said that citizens are “witnessing the real destruction of democracy by Democrats.”

In a July 21 post on X, Grantham said: “We’re witnessing the real destruction of democracy by Democrats. Not until August will we know who a small group of elitists choose over the democratically-elected nominee of their party, literally disregarding over ten million votes of citizens across the nation. #Tyranny #NeverKamala.”

Just before Grantham’s post on July 21, Biden also posted on X and in an attached letter, officially announced his withdrawal from the 2024 Presidential Election.

“It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President. And while it has been my intention to seek re-election, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term. I will speak to the nation later this week in more detail about my decision,” Biden wrote, in part.

“For now, let me express my deepest gratitude to all those who have worked so hard to see me re-elected. I want to thank Vice-President Kamala Harris for being an extraordinary partner in all this work. And let me express my heartfelt appreciation to the American people for the faith and trust you have placed in me.”

Prior to his election to the Arizona House of Representatives, Grantham worked as an aircraft maintenance technician, pilot and business owner. His current term ends in Jan. 2025 and as he has served the maximum number of terms his position allows, four, he will not be seeking re-election.

Grantham announced his decision in April.

“I’m wanting to honor my term limits – I believe in them. And I also would just like to take a short break for personal matters. I am going to come back and run for something else, but I am just going to take about a two-year hiatus,” Grantham said at the time.

Running in the Republican primary for Legislative District 14 are incumbent Rep. Laurin Hendrix, along with Joel Coen, Lalani Hunsaker, Andrew Jackson and Khyl Powell.

According to Ballotpedia, Grantham was born in Scottsdale and lives in Gilbert. Grantham attended Arizona State University, where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in agribusiness. While at Arizona State University, Grantham joined the United States Air Force, attaining the rank of Major, and also joined the Arizona Air National Guard.
