The City of Chandler’s Deputy City Manager and Chief Financial Officer, Dawn Lang, was awarded the newly created Finance Excellence Award from the Government Finance Officers Association of Arizona (GFOAz) on August 8 during their Summer Conference. The award recognizes outstanding financial management and professionalism in local government in Arizona.
Lang was nominated for her leadership in Arizona local government finance for over 15 years. "This award acknowledges Dawn’s talent and passion for government finance," said City Manager Josh Wright. "She fulfills an essential role in building our reputation for financial excellence and elevates our capabilities to serve residents in the process."
Under Lang's leadership, Chandler has become one of the fiscally strongest cities in the nation. The city is one of only three municipalities in Arizona with a perfect general obligation bond rating from all three major agencies. It is also the first city in Arizona to achieve a perfect excise tax revenue obligation bond rating from all three major agencies and is the largest city in the state to pay off its public safety pension liabilities.
The GFOAz is a non-profit professional organization that supports government finance professionals in Arizona through leadership, education, and communication.
