Chandler City Council has approved two agreements for the enhancement of Chandler Heights Road, spanning from Gilbert Road to Val Vista Drive. The construction contract was awarded to Sunland Asphalt & Construction, LLC, with a budget not exceeding $9,784,943. Additionally, Consultant Engineering, Inc. received a professional services agreement valued at up to $1,035,646.10.
The project will expand the roadway to accommodate two lanes in both directions and includes several improvements such as bike lanes, a landscaped median, ADA-compliant upgrades including curbs and sidewalks, improved traffic signals and streetlights, storm drainage enhancements, block walls, and utility upgrades. Coordination with Salt River Project is also part of the plan to underground overhead distribution lines.
Construction is set to begin in January 2025. Meanwhile, work on an adjacent section of Chandler Heights Road from McQueen to Gilbert roads is nearing completion and will fully reopen before the new project starts.
"The improvements on Chandler Heights between Gilbert and Val Vista roads will benefit from the amount of private development improvements that have already occurred," stated city officials. This makes it less complex than previous work done between McQueen and Gilbert roads.
