Arizona State University (ASU) has been placed in the top 1% of nearly 21,000 universities worldwide according to the 2024 Global 2000 list by the Center for World University Rankings. The rankings were released on May 13 and evaluate institutions based on education, employability, faculty, and research.

ASU is ranked 194th globally out of a total of 20,966 institutions and holds the 67th position in the United States. In terms of employability, ASU is positioned at 649th, placing it within the top 5%.

The university's other rankings include a regional rank (U.S. and Canada) of 74th, a research rank of 150th placing it in the top 1%, a faculty rank of 266th in the top 2%, and an education rank of 451st in the top 3%. Notably, ASU ranks higher than Georgetown University, University of Illinois – Chicago, and Florida State University.

"ASU’s global recognition is a reflection of our innovative faculty members, their excellence in research and their impact on our younger generations as they prepare to help solve some of the world’s greatest challenges," stated Sally C. Morton, executive vice president of ASU's Knowledge Enterprise. She added that this acknowledgment highlights "the inventive spirit and visionary approach" shared by ASU's community.

The Center for World University Rankings bases its assessments on objective data points rather than surveys. It uses seven indicators grouped into four areas: education accounts for one-quarter of the score based on alumni success relative to university size; employability also constitutes one-quarter based on professional success; research makes up 40% measured through output and influence metrics; finally, faculty distinctions contribute to another portion.

This consulting organization provides policy advice and strategic insights aimed at improving educational outcomes globally. Its rankings are noted for objectivity and transparency.

In addition to these accolades from CWUR, ASU was recently recognized for employability by The Global Employability University Ranking and Survey which placed it at number 34 internationally and number 13 among U.S. institutions.
