In a recent ranking by Poets&Quants, the W. P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University (ASU) has been named the top MBA program in the United States for entrepreneurship and second globally. This marks a significant improvement from last year's sixth position.
Ohad Kadan, Charles J. Robel Dean and W. P. Carey Distinguished Chair in Business, expressed satisfaction with the ranking, stating: “This top ranking is incredibly gratifying for the school.” He added that ASU's reputation for innovation aligns with its business school's focus on entrepreneurship.
The methodology employed by Poets&Quants involved 16 data points gathered through school surveys. These included aspects like the percentage of MBA courses dedicated to entrepreneurship or innovation, resources available to students such as incubators or accelerators, and support structures like entrepreneurs in residence.
W. P. Carey's full-time MBA program provides substantial support for aspiring entrepreneurs through its curriculum and resources. The entrepreneurship concentration offers a core course alongside five required specialization courses aimed at developing essential entrepreneurial skills.
Kate Eaton, associate dean for graduate programs at W. P. Carey, highlighted how their courses prepare students: “Our entrepreneurship courses put students in the shoes of an entrepreneur, helping them develop critical thinking to make business decisions in real time with limited information.”
An alumnus of the program, Mike Shufeldt (MBA '23), founded Ignite Healthcare Solutions and Xcellerant Ventures after benefiting from ASU's Executive Connections mentorship program. He remarked on his ongoing relationship with his mentor: “I meet and talk to my mentor, a lifelong entrepreneur, to this day.”
