Legacy Traditional School in Surprise, Arizona, has been recognized as an Arizona Purple Star School. This designation is given to schools that show exceptional commitment to supporting military-connected students and their families. The recognition underscores the school's dedication to creating a supportive community for those serving in the military.
The Arizona Purple Star School Program was established by the Arizona Department of Education and the Military Child Education Coalition. It honors schools that provide tailored resources, training, and support for military-connected students. To qualify for this designation, schools must fulfill specific requirements such as appointing a military liaison, offering professional development on challenges faced by military-connected students, maintaining a resource webpage for military families, and hosting events to honor service members.
Since its first location opened in Maricopa in 2007, Legacy Traditional Schools have focused on academic excellence and student success. The Purple Star designation further affirms their commitment to supporting military families.
To celebrate this achievement, Legacy Traditional School – Surprise will hold a Flag Ceremony on Friday, March 14 at 8 a.m. Students are encouraged to wear purple to show unity with military families. Active military members attending are invited to breakfast in the school cafeteria as appreciation for their service.
Mia Vega, Superintendent of Legacy Traditional Schools – Arizona stated: “Receiving the Purple Star designation is an incredible honor that reflects our unwavering support for military-connected students. At Legacy, we are committed to providing an exceptional education and a community where military families feel seen, supported, and celebrated.”
