The Mesa Police Department has introduced a new method for residents to report illegal fireworks anonymously. From July 1, 2024, through July 6, 2024, individuals witnessing illegal firework activity can report it via the City of Mesa website (mesaaz.gov) under the “Residents” tab, “Police,” and then “Report Fireworks.” Residents have the option to submit requests anonymously before filing their complaints. These submissions generate emails sent to a specific mailbox monitored continuously.
The City of Tempe is set to celebrate Independence Day with various events and updates on city initiatives. On July 1, 2024, Mayor Corey Woods, Councilmembers Doreen Garlid, Randy Keating, and Councilmember-elect Nikki Amberg will be sworn in for four-year terms on the Tempe City Council. Councilmembers Jennifer Adams, Arlene Chin, and Berdetta Hodge will continue their terms. The city's vice mayor will be named during the meeting.

The Chandler Fire Department will continue to offer voluntary cancer screening to its first responders as part of ongoing efforts to reduce and mitigate firefighter exposure to carcinogens. The Chandler City Council has renewed the agreement with Vincere Cancer Center for enhanced cancer prevention and diagnosis services, allocating up to $550,000 through June 2025. Fireworks will return this year to Tempe Beach Park. The Kiwanis Club of Tempe presents the 73rd Annual Tempe 4th of July Celebration on Thursday, July 4, from 4-10 p.m. The event promises an evening filled with games, food, drinks, entertainment for children, live music, and a fireworks show over the lake. Additionally, attendees arriving before 6 p.m. can witness a U.S. Air Force F-35 flyover.
The Chandler City Council has reduced the city’s primary property tax rate for the ninth consecutive year to mitigate the impact of increased property values. The one-cent rate reduction lowers Chandler’s combined property tax rate to $1.0826 per $100 of assessed property value for fiscal year 2024-2025, which began on July 1.
