At a recent board meeting, Mesa Public Schools highlighted Edison Elementary as the Spotlight School for April 8. The occasion celebrated the achievements and contributions of students and staff.

Edison Elementary's Principal Alex MacDonald praised Jhadiel Rivera Sanchez, a sixth-grader, for his active participation in sports and his supportive role as an older brother. "Jhadiel is an active participant in many sports, including football, basketball, and soccer," stated MacDonald. MacDonald added that Jhadiel is "not only an excellent athlete, but also a model student." His teachers and classmates appreciate his kindness, leadership, and academic performance.

Michelle Youngquist was recognized for her long-standing commitment to the school. Having worked at Edison Elementary for 35 years, Michelle has been a familiar face as a crossing guard and in various school roles. "Michelle’s dedication to her work is unmatched, and she has been a constant presence in the lives of Edison students," said MacDonald.

The board also acknowledged Deborah Taylor for her contributions to the reading intervention program alongside Michelle Youngquist. "Deb’s commitment to her students is unwavering," remarked MacDonald. Taylor's efforts include taking professional development webinars and enhancing her knowledge to aid students with reading challenges.

In his closing remarks, Principal MacDonald expressed gratitude to both Deb and Michelle for their integral roles in the school's reading program, enhancing the educational environment for students needing extra support.
